On May 22nd of this year, a tragedy occurred in Manchester, England, at the conclusion of an Ariana Grande concert. Similar events have happened in Paris, Colorado, and in our very own backyard last year, at Pulse nightclub in Orlando. These events beg the question: If you are running a large scale venue, what are you doing to ensure guests’ security?

We’ve seen the heightened measures, such as metal detectors and checking of bags. But when news like these keep being reported on a regular basis, it becomes a duty for venues to do everything in their power to maximize their security.

When was the last time you updated your surveillance? More importantly, when was the last time a team of engineers studied your infrastructure? Does your surveillance system provide high definition feed? If law enforcement were to request your assistance in tracking down a suspect, would you be able to provide them with something more than grainy video?

Nowadays, these are not just hypothetical scenarios. Granted, we hope that they don’t happen close to us; but if history has taught us anything, it’s that the best predictor for future behavior is past behavior. These crazies are everywhere.

What if you simply don’t have the budget?

Before making that assumption, you should first have IT experts look over your system. Chances are that a simple solution my provide you with better images, without having to upgrade your hardware. Maybe you just have a congested network, or can upgrade your analog system to IP over existing cables.

Local Tampa Bay arenas have wasted funds replacing hardware when one of the above alternatives would’ve sufficed. And even if it turns out that you do need to spend extra money, it might be time to re-evaluate your allocation of resources. At the end of the day, what’s more important than ensuring the safety of people who show up to your venue with their friends and family to have a good time?

Source 1 Solutions is more than a traditional security company. Our IT experts are not going to try to sell you a camera system just for the sake of making a sale. That’s not our M.O. We are engineers, and we know better than that. Contact us with your security concerns and let us make a real assessment of what your venue needs. What’s the price tag on your peace of mind?
